An optimal number of bowel movements is about three times a day. Sound like a lot? Many of us couldn’t even imagine going to the bathroom that often. If you’re going less than that, you may be suffering from constipation.

Constipation can come from a number of causes including dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, imbalances in your gut, or medications. A laxative may help temporarily, but it will not address the underlying issue that is causing the constipation in the first place.
